
About the founder
Mr. Ethan Dong-Yi was first discovered by legendary conductor Herbert Zipper when Mr. Dong-Yi won First Prize at the China National Piano Competition at age 14. He received his music education from his mother Li Fei-Lan (李斐岚) who served as the piano professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing as well as professor Ying Shi-Zhen, Pan Yi-Ming. In the United States, he studied with Mary Ann Cummins at Crossroads School, Russell Sherman at the New England Conservatory of Music and Claude Frank at the Yale University. After his graduate study at Yale, Mr. Dong-Yi found his passion in music education and founded Opus119. Mr. Dong-Yi has won 1st Prize in International Piano Competitions and gave his debut recital in Carnegie Hall in New York. He soloed with distinguished orchestras such as the Pacific Symphony under the direction of Carl St. Clair and Beijing Philharmonic. His mentors includes Professor Zhou Guangren, André Watts, and William Grant Naboré. Mr. Dong-Yi served as the president of Music Teacher Association of California's Orange County North Branch from 2005-2008 and currently as the president for the LCUIP Foundation. Mr. Dong-Yi conducts master classes in the States as well as Asia and Europe. In addition to his passion in music, he enjoys flying and martial arts.
